Crayola Wonder Color Review

So, as you might have guessed, I love to color. It's a nice and stress free way to relax and is mostly mindless. That being said, I was at Target the other day and I saw these in the coloring book section. This is Crayola's Wonder Color and it is advertised as mess-free coloring. I bought one to try it out. The basic concept is that each coloring book has special paper and comes with special markers. The colors only show up on the special paper so there is no scare when letting children color on a nice table because if they try to color on the table, the markers will not work on the table or anywhere else besides the special paper.

When I first picked up this coloring book, I assumed it was going to be similar to magic markers. Magic markers were so fun, you had one marker with special ink and special paper and it would magically make all the colors appear. It was fool proof.
I was pretty bummed out to find that these are nothing like magic markers. My first disappointment was that they didn't provide enough colors. As you see in the photo above there were 5 colors and I used them all more than once. I left the snow white, because I was out of blues to use, and this bothered me. The rest of the coloring book has many photos, including a photo of Olaf, however there is no orange color for the carrot nose.

It also seemed that the brown marker was running out of ink after coloring one page, which was sad as well.

That being said, Crayola was genius in creating a mess-free coloring book for kids. I used to get so stressed out when my nephew would color at my house, because he would almost always go off the page and onto the table.

One really cool thing I noticed was that there were white details on the dresses that would not be colored in, so it was almost like a magic marker effect. It was pretty cool!

Crayola does have Color Wonder markers that come in other colors, but they are impossible to find unless you buy another kit. Each kit comes with a coloring book and a few Color Wonder markers. The other option is to purchase a full box of color wonder markers, I was able to find a full box online. However, I was annoyed that  they weren't at Target.

I still had fun coloring the page above, and to finish my coloring book, I might just purchase a box of Crayola Color Wonder Markers.

I give Crayola Color Wonder a 7 out of 10. Although I think they should include more colors in the kits, I had fun playing with this product and I think it works out great for kids who love to color but may not be the best at staying on the paper.
